Edwin van Gameren is Associate Professor of Economics at the Centro de Estudios Económicos of El Colegio de México in Mexico City.

Edwin van Gameren holds a PhD in Economics from the VU University (Vrije Universiteit, Free University) in Amsterdam, and an MSc in Econometrics from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. He worked several years at the SCP/The Netherlands Institute for Social Research, mainly on questions regarding the demand for and the use of elderly care services, and on childcare and labor force participation decisions, but also on poverty, housing services, and other topics.
Since 2006 he is professor and researcher at
the Centro de Estudios Económicos of El Colegio de México. From 2015 to 2020 he was the Academic Coordinator of the PhD in Economics, and late 2022/early 2023  the Interim Coordinator of the Bachelor programme.  Since March 2024 he is the Editor of  Estudios Económicos , the academic journal of the CEE.
His research interests include the application of micro-econometric methods in the fields of labor and health economics. Work on
labor force participation and retirement decisions of elderly workers, including the role of health, mental health, and health insurance in these decisions; as well as questions related to migration, poverty, education, inequality, and other topics, has been published in various national and international journals and other outlets.
